Let it snow!
Last Thursday physios in all the resorts were affected by winds of up to 180kph and 80cms of fresh snow! Two of our girls who live in Tignes were stranded in Val D’Isere as a result of roads being shut due to avalanches and a 9pm curfew being imposed on the town. We would like to thank our friends at Consensio Holidays and Ski Total for looking after Jenny and Gemma so well for those couple of days. Even Chris had to spend a few nights where he was working in Val Thornes as an avalanche there shut the roads! A few days later and call is back to normal and we have some fantastic skiing conditions to make up for it!

Newton Faulkner
Newton Faulkner treated fans to a concert at Evolution Bar this week, 2730m at the summit of Saulire.
The gig was part of Meribel’s Altitude Festival which runs till the 1st of April, combining well known comedy and music artists such as Christophe Guybet, Four Poofs and a Piano and Newton.
One of our physiotherapists Lucy was there to see the gig and said it was well worth the hike up the mountain.

3 Valley Rally
If you were in the 3 valleys recently and saw people dressed in crazy one pieces, animal costumes or lycra don’t stress, you didn’t stumble upon an Alpine cirus, just participants in this years 3 valley rally.
The annual seasonaire event has teams of two girls and two boys with at least one snowboarder per group racing from Courchevel to Val Thorens in search of check points, where they have to pass tasks to continue.
Some of these included shots of chilli tequila, taking off socks and passing it through trousers and wheelbarrow races.
The event usually sends all sensible skiers racing in the opposite direction.

X-RAY of the pins! OUCH!
Broken Bones
She has done it again folks!
Ski Physio administrator Chanel Gallen has ANOTHER impressive x-ray to add to her growing collection, (after breaking her wrist last year).
On Sunday the 14th of March Chanel managed to snap her ankle, a ride in a blood wagon, a quick stop off at the doctors, a short stint in an ambulance, a touch of surgery and many pain killers later she is back in the office.
Note: people with two left feet should stay away from the Terrain park.

Lou and Chris ready to race
Beavers complete Trail Des Neiges
Yes, that’s right. There are two beavers in the photo beside this blog, one being ski physiotherapist Louise Body.
Lou took part in last nights Trail des Neiges, a 14km run across the footpaths and pistes of La Plagne to raise money for the Cornish Lifeboats, specifically the new Looe Rib (lifeboat) which costs £31,000 to build and launch.
The race kicked off at 6pm, Lou saying the ‘Alps looked beautiful in the changing lights’ helped along the way with some vin chaud to stay warm.
Out of the 200 competitors Lou and buddy Chris were the only two beavers…no guesses why!
March 15 2010

Sian and Chris at the top
Aiguille de Fruit
Yesterday Ski-Physio Founder Sian along with her husband Chris and buddy Matt took on one of the steepest and highest mountain faces in Courchevel.
The Aiguille de Fruit sits at 3051m, and can’t be reached by bubble, button or chair lift but a long gruelling walk to the top with all your ski gear (unless you have a husband handy like Sian who can carry it for you).
After a quick pit stop at the top, the trio were rewarded with a crowd-less run that was a tad wind blown but some powder at the bottom.
March 12 2010
Jenny Jones Gold
2010 X Games gold medallist Jenny Jones enlisted the help of ski physio to secure her spot as number 1.
Jones took home her first Winter X Games Europe slopestyle gold, the first woman from Great Britain to win a Winter X Games medal.
Jenny saw our physio Laura Ellam throughout the tournament, stating she was a ‘fantastic, very accommodating physiotherapist’.
Congrat’s Jenny on your win.
March 12 2010
Laura and Lucy at the games
X Games update
Our physiotherapists in Tigne Laura and Lucy have been hugging the side lines of the X Games this week.
The girls say the resort has an exciting atmosphere and crowds are great, so don’t miss it if you’re in the area.
We here in the office are a tad jealous of Laura for managing to score a new pair of sunglasses after treating some of the Oakley crew.
March 10 2010

Valkyrie Festival
La Tania’s Valkyrie Festival kicks off today with perfect blue skies for the event.
Held over Saturday and Sunday, the festival hosts a brilliant display of freestyle and freerider jib sessions, including a live gig by the Black Flowers and after parties.
For spectators the action will take place at the top of the Col de la Loze chair, its sunny so don’t forget sunscreen!
March 06 2010

X GAMES
Extreme sport fans will be flocking to Tignes next weekend as it hosts the first ever European Winter X Games.
The competition will run from the 10th to the 11th of March, some of the best freestyle riders from around the world will compete in events such as Super Pipe and Slopestyle Ski and Snowboard.
The event and all entertainment associated with the games is free (David Guetta playing on the Thursday evening) and there will be special areas on the sidelines for people to get close to the action.
The Ski Physio’s sure aren’t missing it!
March 05 2010

Lisa Cordwell
Meribel 3 Valley Rally
Ski physio speed skier Lisa Cordwell took part in Meribel’s 3 Valley Rally yesterday.
The team (Rich, Lisa, Spuggy and Milky) were required to include one snowboarder and one female.
Completing the course in 2 hours 55 minutes, Lisa says all technique went out the window with poor visability on the mountain, managing to do some of the biggest jumps she has done without the intention to.
The team didn’t win (only 6 minutes behind first place) which probably isn’t a bad thing, considering the prize was a keg of beer!
March 04 2010
Lou and team mate Chris ready to race in fancy dress
Trail des Neiges
One very fit member of our SKI PHYSIO team is training to compete in the Trail des Neige held on the 14th of March.
Louise Body will tackle a 14km night race of footpaths around La Plagne, starting and finishing in Plagne Centre at the bottom of the slalom stadium.
Lou is raising funds for a number of worthwhile causes, including save the Beaver, Cornish RNL1 and a personal Chy fund.
If anyone is in the area around this time, keep watch for a runner in a beaver suit – yes that will be our Louise.
GOOD LUCK!
February 26 2010

Altitude Festival 2010
The Altitude festival will return to Meribel this year from the 20th to the 26th of March, show casing a range of comedy and music acts.
More than 9 thousand people flocked to last years event, highlights including KT Tunstall’s performance in the Olympic Centre and Marcus Brigstockes stand up comedy.
Watch this space for confirmed 2010 acts.
February 22 2010
Half Term
More than 34 thousand vehicles are expected to clog the roads between Albertville and Moutiers as holiday makers roll into the French Alpes for half term holidays.
Tomorrow the 20th of February is one of the busiest days on the road for motorists as the UK and French school holidays overlap.
So unless absolutely necessary perhaps leave the car in the garage, especially between the peak hours of 6am and 3pm.
February 19 2010

Torah Bright at Olympics
Olympics Win
Our Australian administrator Chanel has asked for a special congratulations to go out to fellow Aussie Torah Bright, picking up a gold medal in last nights women’s Halfpipe at the Vancouver Olympics.
It was Australia’s first gold.
Chanel has been out on the slopes practicing her ‘gnarliest’ board moves, we haven’t the heart to tell her she might not be representing Australia in the 2014 Russian Olympics.
February 19 2010

Ski Total Football Match
A 5 aside football match plus ski and snowboard slalom will be held for Total and Esprit staff in the Tarentaise on the 18th of March.
The day kicks off at 10.30am, finishing with live music, dinner and hot tubs with prizes including a massage or physiotherapy session from ski physio, probably much needed after the day’s frivolities!
February 11 2010

Europa Cup Meribel
The Winter Olympics are only days away, but if you’re craving some pre game skiing action head to Meribel on Monday the 8th for the Men’s FIS Alpine Skiing European Cup.
Competitors from 11 nations will race over two days, some who haven’t been selected for the Olympics trying to earn points, others attempting to qualify for the World Cup.
The event takes place in Meribel’s Corbey Stadium.
February 06 2010

Snowing Snowing Snowing
Although skiers were enjoying the heavy snowfall today, motorists were finding it difficult travelling up and down the mountain. Cars were banked up along roads while drivers struggled to get chains on, police stopping any car without them.
Unfortunately this driver didn’t pop his on in time and his final resting place was here, just outside the ski physio office.
February 05 2010
X Factor
Ski Physio have helped raise funds for the Macmillan Cancer Charity. An X Factor Karaoke night was held at La Tsaretta in Meribel raising 1 thousand euro’s on the night. Acts were awarded by our spoof celebrity judges Cheryl, Simon and Louis, with a charity auction also held through the evening.
Good luck to Sara and Lisa who will take part in the London Marathon in April to continue raising money for the charity.

Ballon Ballai
Members of the Courchevel ski physio team took part in a very serious Ballon Ballai tournament. For those who have no idea what this game is, it involves running around an ice rink, attempting to hit a soft football into the opposition’s goal with a broom.
Although we didn’t win (Ski School New Generation picked up the trophy) we managed to come away with minimal scratches and bruises, thanks to our helmets, wrist guards and Alex’s protective bottom gear.

A special congratulations to Alex who slid most of the run on his back!

Dali in Courchevel
Have you visited Courchevel recently and wondered why there are giant sculptures of melting clocks, long legged elephants and headless bodies?
We are hosting the ‘Dali au Sommet’ exhibition, some of the best original works by Salvador Dali scattered around resort until the end of April.
So if you are coming to the three valleys grab some information from the tourist information centre and stroll around our museum on the slopes.

Les Deux Alpes
Let it snow
The snow has been bucketing down in Les Deux Alpes this week, even some road closures to avalanche blast the roads. It doesn’t seem to be stopping with a further 41cm predicted by the end of the week.
Those holidaying in Les Deux Alpes get ready for some fresh tracks.

Tired but very happy.
Sian has done it !
As you may have been aware Sian (ski-physio boss) ran the New York Marathon on the 1st November in aid of the Cystic fibrosis Trust. We are proud to tell you that she completed it in a fantastic 4 hours and 25 minutes. This was the first time sian had run this distance and knocked 5 minutes of her predicted time.
Although she vowed never to run one again I can tell you that she is already thinking of more running events. Watch this space.

New York Marathon
Sian the boss of Ski-Physio is doing the New York marathon in aid of the CF Trust.
Sian is not a runner so this is a big undertaking for her and as usual she is putting her all into it. Any sponsorship would be well received and this can be done at justgiving.com/siansmarathonattempt
We all wish her good luck.
