BRITISH CHARTERED PHYSIOTHERAPY CLINICS
Two types of Electrotherapy treatment are most commonly used by physiotherapists: Ultrasound and Interferential Current Therapy.
Ultrasound
Physiotherapists can offer Ultrasound, whether in a clinic or on house call, and will use this in support of manual therapy, wherever appropriate. Ultrasound involves high frequency sound waves to treat soft tissue, which stimulates blood circulation and cell activity, accelerates healing time and provides pain relief.
Interferential Current Therapy
Interferential Current Therapy (or IFC) was introduced to physiotherapists in the mid-1950’s, and has been a successful treatment for the management of acute and chronic pain, muscle spasms, oedema, inflammation and low muscle tone.
